WELCOME TO THE SFYB TRAVEL PROGRAM!
Home of the 8th Grade Boys 2023 PA State Champs!
Registration will open on Friday, August 25th at 3pm for the 2024-25 season. You must select that you are interested in trying out for the Travel Program on the registration.
Each interested travel player must register via the player registration. If he/she does not make a travel team, they will automatically be placed on a team in the Rec Program.
The SFYB TRAVEL Program is for 3rd-8th grade boys and girls.* Boys and girls must try-out for a team.
TRYOUTS:
The Travel Program begins with tryouts late September - mid-October. Try out dates will be sent in advance via email to all players who have registered and will also be posted on the website. There will be 2-3 tryout sessions for each grade, depending on the number of players interested. Players must attend 2 of 3 evaluations to be considered for a team. At the end of tryouts, Travel team rosters will be posted to the website. Parents will be notified via email regarding the day and time that the rosters will be posted.
TRAVEL FEES:
If your child makes a travel team, there is an additional fee above and beyond the the standard registration fee. The additional fees will cover uniform, gym rental, referee fees, and tournaments. You will be invoiced separately. If you do not pay the invoiced fee prior to the start of the season, your player will not be eligible to play. If you require financial assistance, please reach out to vicepresident@sfybhoops.com.
SEASON:
The Travel program season begins with practices mid-October. All travel teams participate in the Inter-County Basketball Association league (ICBA) for game play. The ICBA starts the 2nd week of December and runs until mid-February, with playoffs and championship games running into early March.
PRACTICES AND GAMES:
Travel teams practice 2x/week, Monday thru Thursday, and will have 1-2 games on the weekends. On game days, a parent is required to work the score table and clock.
TOURNAMENTS:
In addition to league play, travel teams will participate in 3 tournaments during the season: 1) The John Streeper Memorial Shoot Out at Perk Valley over Thanksgiving, 2) King of the Court Tourney late Nov-early Dec, and 3) SFYB's President's Day Tournament.
LOCATIONS:
All home games are played in the Spring-Ford School District gyms and away games are at other community schools within 20 minutes to 1 hour away.
COACHES:
SFYB partners with Positive Coaching Alliance and looks to fill coaching positions with individuals who mirror the values and concepts within PCA. Teams are coached mostly by volunteer parents, however, the league does accept and has non-parent coaches as well.
If you have any interest coaching, please complete the coaching registration form on the Registration page. SFYB looks for individuals who have both the time commitment and dedication to the sport. They should have a strong knowledge of the game from either playing themselves or from coaching. It is imperative to be a good, strong leader who focuses on the development of their players, first and foremost. Winning games is great, but it should not come at a cost to balancing the fundamental skill development of the players at these ages. Ideally a coach builds confidence in their players, while also building team camaraderie.
*2nd grade boys and girls may try out for the 3rd grade travel team.

TRAVEL PROGRAM DETAILS
Spring-Ford Youth Basketball offers a competitive Travel Program to both boys and girls from 3rd-8th grades. This is separate and distinct from our Recreation Program. Players must try-out for the Travel Program, where as they can join our Rec Program, as long as there is space available.
Travel tryouts are generally mid-September and dates will be emailed in advance to all members. If your child is interested in trying out for a travel team, you can indicate this by checking the box on the player registration form. Please note that this is for players who reside in the Spring-Ford School District only. If your child makes a travel team, there is an additional fee above and beyond the the standard registration fee. The additional fees will cover uniform, gym rental, referee fees, and tournaments.
Players are to attend the tryout that correlates to their current grade, regardless of age. There are three (3) tryouts per grade and we encourage your player to attend all three so that the evaluators can adequately and fairly evaluate your child, but at a minimum he/she must attend two (2) in order to be considered for a team. Since this is a travel program, no player is guaranteed a spot on a team. However, if the player does not make a team, they are guaranteed a spot in our Recreation Program and will automatically be placed in that program. There will be no refund of registration fees if your player decides not to participate in the Rec Program.
The SFYB Travel Program offers players a more competitive basketball environment for the player who is ready to take their skills to the next level and give more commitment to the game. Players will have practice twice a week versus once per week and will have both home and away games, where travel can be up to an hour away. Players will have an opportunity to continue to develop their individual skills, while also learning more advanced team concepts. We align closely with Spring-Ford High School Basketball Program for any player who is interested in continuing this level of play into high school.
If you are unsure if the Travel Program is right for your child, feel free to contact our Travel Director to discuss.
